SCOPE OF PRACTICE

ADDICTION

I have extensive experience working in the field of addiction and other compulsive behaviors. Using a psychoanalytic and trauma informed lens we will examine the reasons you have chosen to cope using self destructive methods. In your initial assessment we will explore whether this is the right time for in depth work or whether a stabilization program is required first to get you back on track. Through hard work you will learn to feed the right wolf.

CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOTHERAPY

(IN THE TRADITION OF RELATIONAL PSYCHOANALYSIS)

With an in depth exploration of your thoughts, dreams, and memories, we work to undo old patterns of relating that no longer promote your personal growth. In an interpersonal space we will examine your history to help integrate the present in a new way. You begin to gradually notice a change in how you feel about relationships as these dynamics begin to take on new form. Analytic therapy is the meeting of two individual and idiosyncratic minds for the purpose of mutual sharing that serves to usher in a newer, more resilient version of you. No two therapeutic experiences are the same. What we create together is one of a kind. Let’s play.

DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

Depression and anxiety can be debilitating if ignored. These two afflictions are more common now than ever. The good news is that, with every generation, mental health is becoming more of a priority and so more people are understanding themselves and doing something about it. The bad news is that we live in an increasingly unstable world, and this has only exacerbated how we are able to cope. Whether you experience chronic mood cycles or have existential questions about your place in this world, psychotherapy is a proven remedy. In some cases medication may be appropriate and we can explore whether a referral to a medical doctor is needed.

TRAUMA

Whether big ‘T’ or little ‘t’ trauma, the impacts of these events and experiences in life can last. By exploring how trauma functions in your life, you can begin to regulate through a safe and healing space, with another. While I do not practice specific trauma modalities I do work within a trauma framework to understand those parts of you that carry this pain. Through our work, we can begin to give these hurt parts of you a welcome space to come up for air.

LGBT, QUEER, RACIAL AFFIRMATIVE THERAPY

Psychotherapy allows you to explore the complex nature of living your life with chronic shame as a result of happening to exist as you are. Stigma and indifference are real, permeating all levels of society. Have you ever wondered how this sense of ‘otherness’ has affected your individual psyche over time? I want you to feel welcomed, understood, and aligned with as you explore your experience of being ‘othered’. I hope to foster a relationship in which nothing is off the table, and that you feel comfortable knowing that my own privilege is fair game for exploration.
